Gilgit-Baltistan (GB), a mountainous and climate-fragile region, continues to experience chronic energy shortages owing to its limited hydropower capacity, harsh winters, long-distance transmission lines, and scattered settlements. Remote valleys frequently experience severe outages, leaving citizens without reliable lighting, heating, or power for daily life and disrupting operations in private clinics, diagnostic centers, private schools, skills centers, and digital workspaces.
The Federal Government’s decision to transfer confiscated solar panels currently stored in FBR warehouses in Karachi presents a transformative opportunity to strengthen GB’s renewable energy footprint. Beneficiaries will receive panels at no cost, while paying only for transportation and installation.
In this scheme Government of GB will give up to 1,47,873 Solar Systems on sharing basis having consumption between 0-200 units through transparent balloting.
